 Eye Creams

The fine skin around your eyes deserves special care as it's the first to show signs of ageing.

Eye creams are an important part of your beauty regime as they are specifically made for the delicate skin around the eyes.  Don't be tempted to use heavy oils or creams because the skin around your eyes is thinner and less able to hold moisture.

There are also fewer oil glands around the eyes which adds to their potential dryness and there's no fatty layer under the skin to act as a shock absorber.

Choosing an eye treatment

Heavy oils and creams can block the tear ducts, resulting in puffy eyes, so choose a specific eye treatment that won't aggravate your skin.

Eye gels work well on young and oily complexions and are refreshing to use.  However most women benefit from light eye creams and balms.

Using eye creams

Apply a tiny amount of your eye treatment to the tip of your ring finger and pat around your eyes, avoiding rubbing the area.  This will prevent your skin from stretching and causing premature wrinkles.

How to avoid puffy eyes

Puffy eyes are a common beauty problem.  Here are some ways to help overcome it:

  • Gently tap the skin around your eyes with your ring finger to help drain away excess fluid.
  • Place strips of peeled potato under your eyes to help reduce swelling.  Cucumber is another great eye tonic.
  • Store your eye cream in the refrigerator as the coolness will help reduce puffiness.
