Record Producer/Award Winning Recording Artist
by our Music Guru Maureen ("Mo") Mahoney
As I began to write this month's review I realized focusing on only one CD by Lee Lessack would not have done justice to this artist and his incredible work.
All of Lee's albums are due the attention
they so richly deserve --
"An Enchanted Evening"
"I Know You By Heart"
"Too Marvelous For Words: The Songs of Johnny Mercer"
"In Good Company"
"3 Men and a Baby....Grand"
"The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own."
When I read this quote, I felt it epitomized the man I am reviewing for you now. Not only does Lee shine his own talent for all of us to enjoy, his LML family tree is expanding with a distinguished roster of artists. From Record Producer to Award Winning Recording Artist, Lee has garnered the "Midas Touch". I am honored to finally showcase Lee Lessack, and I hope my words prompt you to join the many who find this artist one of great fortitude and style.
Sit back, grab a glass of wine and let me enlighten you now on the incomparable Lee Lessack.
Here you will uncover a singer whose artistic talents will literally leave you breathless. Lee's voice has a way to captivate you from the first lyric through to the last. You will become mesmerized by the extraordinary baritone vocals he has been blessed with and shares with the world.
Lee is an Award Winning singer, having received so many accolades the industry can possibly bestow to one man....MAC Award, Bistro Award, GLAMA to name a few.
His first CD titled "Lee Lessack" is the beginning of a beautiful love story. Listen to how Lee's voice can encapsulate feelings of love and romance. His voice was born to sing such songs as "Out of this World", "What I was Dreaming Of", "Ten Minutes Ago", "All I Know", "A Love Worth Fighting For"....this album is filled with poetic interpretations, and the songs he chose to perform are as moving and touching as his presentations. If you are a lover of romance and moments of amour, this album is the perfect first choice. Lee's voice will spin you into hours of daydreams and smiles. You will understand and come to admire the talent Lee possesses.
Lee's next undertaking is simply a joy to behold..."An
Enchanted Evening"/"The Music of Broadway". Lee along
with fellow artist Joanne O'Brien, take you on an
unbelievable journey of show tunes and standards. I was
fortunate to attend Lee's show of this entire album, and
I felt it was the BEST EVENING OF SONG I HAD EVER SEEN!
To begin this show with "Some Enchanted Evening" just
spelled out the night for me, entrancing, thrilling and
moving! If you are a lover of Broadway, this CD will be
the one your collection cannot be without.
Here are a few of the tracks to take you down memory lane..."Tonight" from West Side Story, "We Kiss In A Shadow"/"Something Wonderful" from The King and I, "So In Love" from Kiss Me Kate, "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables, to name a few. These songs showcase an immense talent you must hear to believe. Lee Lessack's voice is regarded as "cabaret romanticism of a high order", and he proves it over and over again on this album. Stunning in every way, shape and form.
Lee's third album titled, "I Know You By Heart" is sublime. I find myself playing this CD many times over, because of the stillness and beauty, not only of Lee's vocals, but of the alluring song titles: "Dreamers", "It Feels Like Home", "Storybook", "When October Goes", "Much At All", "I'll Imagine You a Song", "Endless Night", "Right as the Rain"/"Soon It's Gonna Rain", and to end with "Perfect" you can and will fall in love so effortlessly and easily. There is something so sensuous yet breathtaking about Lee's voice, truly something you must experience for your own private interpretation. Lee's voice is capable of pulling feelings out of you from the very first lyric....sit back and enjoy the sensation!
Lee also produced an album of Johnny Mercer songs which will take you down a memorable path of discovery. An album recorded live at the Cinegrill in L.A. invites you to a special evening with Lee. From the onset, you will feel as if you were part of this special night experiencing the joy. I'm sure you will be surprised at the amount of Mercer tunes you will recognize, such as "My Shining Hour", "Too Marvelous for Words", "That Old Black Magic", "Dream", "Laura", "Jeepers Creepers", "Glow Worm" "Come Rain or Come Shine", "Days of Wine and Roses", "Moon River", and Autumn Leaves" to name a few. Stunning album that warrants numerous play.
Your collection of Lee Lessack's musical library would
not be complete without adding the wondrous
"In Good Company". This album is one of the most glorious CD's to be given life to! Here Lee decided to try something a little different, and he gave to us an album of incredible duets. Hearing Lee duet with 17 other artists was magic in the making. Whomever Lee chooses to sing with, his artistry rises to an even greater level and magnitude. The integration of Lee's vocals alongside these artists catapults this album into one of unbelievable worth and dimension.
Lee's versatility shines through on every track from "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", with Nita Whitaker, "Never Saw Blue Like That" with MaryJo Mundy, "Open Arms" a stunning rendition with Brian Lane Green, to his stirring duet with Franc D'Ambrosio on "Vincero Perdero". His all too lovely and appealing tracks of "Let It Be Me" with David Burnham, "Stay the Night" with Stacy Sullivan, through to the final song "May I Suggest" with Michael Feinstein, bring this CD to a climax shining so much love, it is simply a must-have to complete your collection.
Lastly, Lee now has available to the public his show
stopping "3 Men and a Baby...Grand". Along with Johnny
Rodgers, and Brian Lane Green, these 3 men will take you
back to the days of the Rat Pack. There is such an
eclectic mix of laughter, joy and heartfelt songs, you
cannot sit through this CD without tapping your toes or
snapping your fingers. These 3 men set out to make a
mark and nailed it! The voices of these gifted men are
not only simplistic in ease, each brings to the album
their own special impressions of the three renowned
singers of yesteryear. I have never enjoyed an album
more and find myself playing this album daily.
Lee Lessack....combined with the never ending undertaking of producing, arranging and handling every aspect of his music label; I don't know when he finds the time on his calendar to tour, but lucky for all of us, he is out there shining his talent for the world to embrace. In a word, this man is SENSATIONAL!
People who know this man, admire and respect him. People who are not yet familiar with him...will be after my review.
